Title: My Turtle
I'd wanted a turtle for so long. I had read books about them, carefully studied
different foods, even picked out the best cage for one. I often pleaded my parents
to get me one. They always said they would, but never got around to it.
Then, finally we actually went to the pet store seriously looking for one. Of course,
before we could get the turtle, we had to get the equipment. So, in high spirits
I spent the next few weeks getting everything it would need. Finally, we bought
one. It was a red-eared turtle that I fell in love with. We brought it home and
put it in its aquarium. Every day for the next week I took it outside for some
excersise and a way to keep its nails short. I thoroughly loved the green reptile.
Then, just seven days after I'd gotten the turtle, I came home from school to find
an empty aquarium.
My mom told me that she was very sorry, but it had escaped from the patio
in the two minutes it had taken her to step inside and get a drink. She said that
she also heard some people exclaiminging about something that was 'really cute.'
When she came back outside, it was gone.
I was devasted. I screamed and yelled, put signs up outside, and searched
everywhere for it. Unfortuneatly, there was no result. I gave up and returned
to my life before my first pet, only with a heavier heart.
I eventually got over it and decided it would have been to much work to care
for my turtle. Now I am able to say I have absolutely no interest in turtles and
no desire to get another pet. That one experience was enough.
