Title: Christmas Tree

Here I sit all alone,
Even though I am not the only one home.
I sit here so silently,
Behind our bushy Christmas Tree.
Listening to my father shout,
I dare not come out.

There is no excuse
For this kind of abuse!
For the six short years of my life,
I have watched my father beat his wife.
How I wish I could stop him,
And tear him from limb to limb!
But the last time I interfered,
He slapped me here and punched me there,
Now I can barely hear.

But I can still hear her screams and his shouts,
I listen to the rain wanting to get out.
My father strikes again,
Blood dribbles down my mother's chin.
Then he throws her to the ground,
Her body makes a sickening sound.
She lies there never to move again . . .

Now he's coming for me,
Behind our bushy Christmas Tree.
