Title: The Detective

Sameer looked at his sister in anger and said, ”please sneha, let me atleast read in peace. I am in no mood to play with you. Infact right now I have reached the most exciting part of this mystery novel!” sneha looked frustrated. “You do nothing but read your stupid mystery novels! What is so interesting in them?” sneha asked. At this question, Sameer’s eyes started shining and he looked as if he was telling sneha the biggest secret ever.
“You see Sneha, I am training to be a detective. So when I read these stories they give me an excellent idea of how to deal with the biggest of mysteries. Then one day this extremely talented brother of yours,” he said pointing to himself in the nearby mirror, “will be the greatest detective mankind has ever seen. The second Sherlock Holmes!” he finished off grandly and bowed towards sneha. Sneha looked at him as if he had lost his mind and let out a loud guffaw.
“Pooh! You as a detective? Last week you could not even find your own notebook and you expect to solve great crimes? I don’t think so Sameer. You are just day dreaming as usual. I am not going to sit here and waste my time after you. I am going out.” Sneha declared and ran out to play. Sameer stared at her for a while and then made a face. She doesn’t know that she just blew a chance of being a second watson, he thought. I was seriously thinking of hiring her as my assistant. Sameer resigned back to reading his book but he was no longer able to concentrate on the story. An idea was slowly creeping into his eleven-year-old mind. He needed to prove to his sister that he was serious about his future career. So, he made up his mind about searching for a mystery around his neighborhood. He had a feeling that one was about to come up soon.

Sameer and Sneha were playing in their garden when a van parked outside the house next door. The van, they could make out, was loaded with furniture.
“Looks like someone is moving in. I hope they have children. This house has been empty for too long.” Sneha said.
Sameer turned towards the long empty house and nodded silently. He too was glad someone was moving in but he was hoping that whoever did would bring some excitement with him. Sameer had been looking for a mystery for a week now and all he had solved was the mystery of a dead rat but that is another story.
