Title: The Detective Part II
Sameer kept a keen lookout for his new neighbors. It turned out to be a man in his late forties with no family. He seemed the bad tempered type. Once Sameer saw him scolding the milkman for coming 3 minutes late! Mr. Katiyaar hardly ever came out of his house and left for work early in the morning when no one was looking. He seemed very, very mysterious. Sameer felt suspicious of the man but did not tell anyone about this as he thought that they would just make fun of him.
One-day sameer and sneha were playing cricket in their garden. Sameer was batting and he hit the ball very hard. It went flying and landed in Mr. Katiyaar’s garden. Before sameer could run and fetch it, the ball rolled right inside the garage. To the children’s relief, the garage was not locked and sameer ran into the house to get his ball. Just as he was about to open it, the front door flew open and Mr. Katiyaar stepped outside.
“WHAT DO YOU THINK YOU ARE DOING?” he shouted with all his might and sameer got the biggest fright of his life. He was surprised to see mr. Katiyaar from so close but he did not stop to get a better look.
“Sorry uncle, our ball rolled inside your garage and it wasn’t locked so…” he said, trembling from head to foot in fright.
“I am not your uncle and I can’t help it if your ball is inside my garage. You children are nothing but troublemakers. Get out of my garden and NEVER COME NEAR IT AGAIN! AND DARE YOU TRY AND TOUCH MY GARAGE!” he turned around and went inside the house, slamming the door behind him.
Sameer slowly walked back to his house, still not over his shock of being scolded so badly.
“What an old grouch! Now we cannot play without a ball. I really hate that man.” He heard his sister say. Sneha had watched the whole scene from the garden. But sameer had something else on his mind. Why had Mr. Katiyaar been so upset when sameer had tried to open the garage? Was he hiding something inside it? Sameer thought. He decided to investigate somemore when sneha wasn’t around.
At night, sameer was sitting in the living room and watching T.V. when his dad came and switched the channel. Before sameer could object his dad muttered to himself, “so many terrorist attack nowadays and we stay in Delhi which is even more dangerous. There is a warning in the paper that the terrorists maybe planning a fresh attack on this part of the country. Now just imagine, there maybe one of them staying right next door and the police is doing nothing about the security
