The Cannon

Title: The Cannon
As the battle wore on,
Half the gunners were gone,
And only six guns were there.
The quill down the breach,
The ball left with a screech,
And broke the line with a tear.
With the powder in place,
The ball was put in the base
of the shining brass barrel.
The cannon’s fuse was lit,
And the enemy was hit ,
The order of Captain Carrol.
The cannon was reloaded,
And the ramrod was coated
in water to put out the flame.
The order was given,
And the quill was driven
into a hole above the name.
After the General conspired,
The last shot was fired,
And their task was finally done.
With their job completed
they were no longer needed,
For the battle was already won.
