Title: The Lost Ring

It all started out like an average day at Glendale High. I was looking forward to swim practice after school and my boyfriend Cody had justed walked up and surprised me with a georgeous ruby ring. He knows how much I love the color red and just the thought of jewelry from him is a nice gesture. We have been going steady for almost six months. That may not sound like alot, but it is to me. To show Cody how thrilled I was with the ring, I put the ring on my finger right away.

The day passed by so quickly because I was so excited about my gift from Cody. I kept remembering in the back of my mind that day we met and how far we have come. I always wondered if he even knew my name then until one day he said it out loud. "Emma,Could you please hand me my ruler?" At that moment I realized, HE KNOWS WHO I AM!

That afternoon at swim practice I was really feeling great! I was diving and swimming as well as I've ever swam before. At the end of practice we all raced laps. I won the last race and was almost the last person out of the pool. The last person to get out of the pool was Marcy. I remember because she was not happy about losing the last race. Marcy is very competitive and seems to get jealous of her classmates from time to time. She also has a bit of a crush on Cody.

I was in the locker room combing my hair when I realized my ring was gone. First , I panicked and ran back to the pool area where the pool custodian was already vacuuming the pool. This scared me even worse. Whereupon I immediately begged him to try to find the ring after he vacuumed. He assured me that he would and then I headed for to home.

I was so dissapointed because now I could not share my surprise with my mom as I had been looking forward to doing. That night when Cody called I didn't mention the ring or the fact that I had misplaced it. The subject was never brought up except when I told him how beautiful I thought the ring was.

The next day at school as Codya and I were talking by our lockers Marcy walked by. Could it have been my imagination or did she have a ring on exactly like the one Cody had given me just yesterday. I had never seen a ring like that on Marcy before. I know I would have noticed it because we have the same swim class together. Quite often we change clothes and comment about a pair of earrings or a ring that someone has on. I have to find out whether the ring on her finger is hers or mine. This is not going to be pleasant. How do I ask her if she has a stolen ring on her finger? Maybe she found the ring and she is merely keeping it until this afternoon when we have swim practice again.

"Marcy, is that a new ring? I just Love rubies. Would you mind if I tried it on?" Marcy refused my request to try on the ring, so I wans't sure what to do. I headed home that afternoon with a heavy heart. The pool janitor had said there was no ring found the day before.

Cody came over to study for a science test and made me very nervous as I was not expecting his arrival. My first thought was that he was going to notice that the ring was not on my finger. Amazingly enough he didn't notice. The first thing he mentioned was if I had notiuced the inscription inside the ring as of yet. "Inscription," I said half questioningly. "You mean you still haven't noticed?" "I guess I was wrong about you, I always thought you were such a sentimental girl." "Oh Cody, you mean there was an inscription in my ring!" "Sure, it says Love Kody, you don't think I want you to forget where it came from, do you?" This was just the chance for me to have a valid reason to ask Marcy to let me see her ring again. I could not keep it to myself any longer so I told Cody. He was so understanding and insisted that I give Marcy a call right away. I did as he suggested then we walked over to Marcy's house. Fortunately, her house was only a few blocks away. Marcy came outside and Cody began to explain to her about the lost ring. Before I knew what was happening, Marcy began to cry and pulled the ring off of her finger and threw it at me. "Here's your dumb ring!" "Little Miss Emma always gets her way!" "Thanks, now I can look at the inscription," I said as I smiled at Cody.
