Title: The Village Boulders Of Death
In the seventeenth century In the village of Merton there once lived a young woman called Mary Athleweight who was the daughter of Sir Joshua Athleweight of Merton Manor. Sir Athleweight used to despise his daughter as she delved in to the black arts. Until one sorrowful day when he could not take it any more and drank a glass of Arsenic tainted water pushed himself to the long winding road of death.
After her death she distanced herself you could say her soul departed from this world. Although she was still here in body, with a look of desperation of her face, a look of wanting to get out of this life or at least this place, for after all the villagers abhor, her the animals were afraid of her and sadly her own Father had despised Her. She knew no-one would take her to the neighbouring village which was three miles away. So after a lot of thought she said farewell to her home for which it had been for twenty-two years and left.
The neighbouring Village that she was headed for went by the name of Wanton, the two villages had been feuding for many years now over a mindless argument for which the reason no one could remember, did she go there out of spite for her own village or as a simple mistake. Her black eyes set on defiance her long black hair swept around her like a shawl as she strode along with no aim than to quickly get to the impending village of Wanton to leave the life of Merton behind.
After a day she reached Wanton Manor a large robust house with four stories to tell. The first person she met was Sir Herbert Kenton of Wanton Manor. He was a tall handsome person with a great sense of pride and dignity. They at once fell in love him by her mystical looks and her by his great sense of command and control. They married the following week and almost at once she bore a child by the name of Natalie.
All the villagers knew where she came from but only the older villagers knew of the feud and soon told the others that she was an out cast. The villagers called a meeting along with the lord of the manor they passed a vote that she was a witch and should be poisoned at night and the murder should be acted upon by Sir Herbert he readily agreed as she was beginning to frighten him by locking herself away during the day and going out during the night.
That night the terrible deed was achieved but just before her dying breath she whispered a curse on him and the villagers that in ten years time everyone will die as she did to night. Ten long summers went by as and the mountain season began and in the space of two weeks twelve people had gone missing and the villagers were beginning to fret about this as all remembered the curse. They formed a council and voted that they all should go up to the mountain and see what was happening.
Two days before the party were due to leave Natalie Kenton she went up to the mountain and did not return because Herbert feared for his daughters life he voted himself into the party and went with them.
They travelled with torches that carried great flames and walked with eagerness and strength.
At last they reached the top and Herbert spoke of life and love.
"You have taken away our loved ones stolen life not yours!"
She replied
"You stole mine on a summers eve so I ruin you with a curse!"
"Oh you! Great Mary of life and Love take Thine life and spare the others. You do not want them they are young and stupid whereas I am old, wise and frail. They argued till dawn over the freeing of the people until he shouted
"Run!"
And the rocks tumbled every one ran apart from him she took his life and the curse was lifted by his noble death.
Even now you can look out over the village of Wanton and still see the Boulders of death.
