Title: The Short Diary of Anne van Dusen

July 5, 1588
My name is Anne van Dusen, the only child of Thomas and Roberta van Dusen, courtiers of King Henry VII. I am in a dungeon in England.
My parents used to be courtiers of King Henry, until my father was accused of being a spy for the French, for England is at war with France. The king was so angry, that he even put me in the dungeons! And I am but twelve! We are to die by the sword at Tower Green, where many of the king's wives were killed.
My parents are in a separate cell. I am writing on a piece of my dress, with a fish bone for a quill and soot from a tiny fireplace for ink. It isn't much, but it helps.
I wait and wait for my verdict. The king is discussing it with his advisers. My parents are already doomed to die. They will be killed in three days. I mourn for them. I am not even allowed to see them!
The king's kind daughter by his second wife(he has had four, he's on his fifth), Princess Elizabeth, sends me words of comfort daily. A kind princess she is. But I cannot help fearing for my own life, even if my parents were in this cell with me.
The door is creaking, I must stop for now.

Mother and Father died today. I heard the swish of the sword even in my dark dungeon with a tiny window. My fate has been decided. I am to die also, but in a week, for the king is not sure, but I think he is. The Princess has been forced to stop sending me letters of comfort by her father. What a tryant he is! Even if they didn't completely comfort me, they did comfort me, those letters. I have wept for my parents ever since they died today. The words turn blurry and misshapen on this very page. I must write shorter passages now, my dress is starting to shrink.

Since I am to die(for the King is now sure of his decision), I will describe myself and before I leave this dungeon, I will hide this diary so other prisoners can be comforted by this.
I have golden-brown hair, now twisted like a bird's nest. My eyes are a lovely shade of purple, like my mother's. I am thinner than usual, for they don't feed us well here. My features has turned sharp but are still fine.

Since I am to die tomorrow, I will write a bit of comfort for future prisoners:
Death should not be feared, for when you die, you shall enter God's Kingdom, also known as Paradise. In God's Kingdom there is eternal happiness for us all, and we will see the people that we loved and died before us. There will be flowers of every color, fruit will be plentiful, the waters will be crystal clear, animals shall comfort us. So do not fear Death, for that is when we enter God's Kingdom, but only if you have a pure heart.
