Title: prologue continued 2
Corsair walked over to the king, who was seated on his throne, and bowed down on one knee. “What is it you wish of me sire?”
“Rise Corsair, I have called you here to tell you of very dark news. The Larrikin is coming for the golden children. And as you know, they will grow up to be powerful mages, their powers unimaginable as foretold in the ancient prophecy. You must take the children away from here, for they are not safe. I’m afraid our defenses will not hold up to the Larrikin’s forces. Please take them to the Senobian so they can learn the ways of magic. I trust you, my greatest mage to protect my children at all cost. Now go, take the back way and the fastest horse I have. Here are five men, they are the least we can spare from the army.” The king reached out with two tightly wrapped bundles in his hands touching each one’s tiny forehead gently as he handed them to Corsair. Each child’s eyes lit up with a golden sparkle as their father’s finger caressed their smooth skin.
“Your highness, it’s too dangerous, I’ll never make it away from here with my life or the children with only five men and horses. The children are much too important for a fool such as myself. Maybe if I stay and help fight we can defeat the Larrikin…” Corsair was quickly interrupted by the king.
“No, it has to be done, you must take them immediately, there is no time to spare, now leave, I command you!”
“My lord, I’m not worthy. Please, call upon one of the elder wizards to take them, this I beg you.”
“No Corsair, I am begging you. You are the greatest mage in the kingdom. I will not argue with you. You will go now to save your own life and the life of the children.” The king said, and reached down at his side and pulled a sword from his sheath. “I have only one last thing to give you before you leave. It is the Sword of Gramrock. Please give it to the Senobian to give to my children. Now you must go, time is running short. I will stay and command the armies and distract them so you can get away.”
“Yes my lord. I will return to aid you as soon as I can. I will not fail.” Corsair took the children, one in each arm and walked toward the back of the castle where six horses awaited him and his men.
“Godspeed friend.” The king said with one last glint of pale blue light twinkling in his eye.
