Title: prologue continued 5

Six men on horseback sped into the dark night. Corsair held one child gently against his chest, the other child was held by one of the men the king assigned to aid Corsair in taking the children to safety. Corsair glanced back at the castle, which he had just left. The flames of the enemy burned fiercely upon the walls and roof of the building. The powerful enemy had surely killed the king and his men and would now be looking for the children. This thought urged him on faster.
One of Corsair’s men looked back and saw a hovering red creature in the distance. It looked like a dragon of some sort. He continued to watch as it came nearer. “Corsair! A dragon approaches us from the castle. Look there!”
Corsair turned his head toward the man who was speaking to him. It was Alan; a young mage who he had taught swordsmanship classes to three years ago while the boy was still in school. He was the best in the class, and a quick learner. Corsair knew his inexperience, but also knew the strong will he possessed. Corsair turned in the direction of the castle. What he saw was not a dragon, but the Firebrand, the Magiopian beast controlled by the Larrikin. A very powerful spirit created by the Ancients to fight Mordis.
