Title: prologue continued 6
The Firebrand Dragon, along with the Gramrock Lion, and Niferet Phoenix, were the Magiopian creatures that helped the Ancients banish Mordis into the eternal darkness, never to return.
Corsair gasped. “The Larrikin is approaching! Prepare to do battle!” with that he stopped the horse and jumped to the ground along with all the other men. One man, Markus spoke as he dismounted his horse never taking his eyes off of the approaching beast. “How did the Larrikin get the power to awake the Firebrand?”
“I do not know, but the power it took is great enough to take the children away from us if we don’t do something immediately, there are ways of stopping the Magiopian beast.” Said Corsair.
All the mages together formed a shield of defensive magic that would stop the Firebrand from entering. Their concentration on creating the wall had taken about five minutes, and was just in time to stop the Firebrand as the Larrikin had arrived. Corsair handed the golden children to Edres, the oldest solider, who wouldn’t be able to fight well enough against the power of the Larrikin, and pulled out his sword.
The Larrikin fearlessly entered the wall of magic, transforming himself into a tall lanky beast. He was bombarded by spells and swords doing little or no damage. His dark flesh mended itself quickly as he walked toward the children, tossing mages who stood in his way. It irritated him that he didn’t have the power to kill the men. Being so near the children weakened his powers greatly, the power of their innocence repelled the evil. It didn’t matter, they would soon be his. He could show them the true power of darkness and use that power to free his master once again.
Corsair was thrown aside by the powerful arm of the Larrikin as it pushed through the men headed for the golden children, still being held by Edres. The old man attempted to use a spell, but it was useless. The Larrikin simply reached down as to snatch children from his grasp.
