Title: Story from an old woman
As I walked into the cave, I saw two
beady eyes looking at me. Being a daredevil, I decided to take
a closer look.
My unhemmed jeans dragged along the bottom of the dusty
rock bottom. I quitely crept along, careful as to not get into
danger.
Looking for the creature, I stepped on a twig and stumbled to
the ground. I heard scurrying footsteps come close. I barely
lifted my head up, afraid to see what was before me. A shaggy
white paw with six fingers was held out to help. I grabbed it.
It was warm and rough, but suprisingly clean for it's shabby
dwellings. When I was back on my feet, I stared straight
into those eyes I had seen peering out from the darkness.
But paired with a soft black nose covered in dew, and an
impish, toothless smile, it seemed friendly and calm.
But impulse took head and I darted out of there.
For years I wondered what I had come across. Could it have been a dream?
What would of happened If I was to have stayed? Such questions
haunted me, made me turn and squeal under covers, thrashing
about at the wee hours of the morning. So one day, I returned.
And there they were, two beady eyes looking at me. I tried to
approach them, but they kept moving farther back into
the pitch black silence of the cave. And quite sudden;y, they
were ther no more.
As I was to give up, thinking what i had seen years past was
a hallucination, an echo bounced off the cave. It was a moan,
a cry. But of it's point I could not trace. I walked out of the cave,
dissapointed. But I knew now, that it was real. The kind impish
creature of storybooks, living in hollows. A monster that
always ends up rescuing the distressed disbeliever. And that is
what has kept me young.
