Forest AwakeningVolume: 1
A Roman Siege by: Tobias huoston
Chapter: 1The Weakness
It was snowy sunrise outside of the Roman palace gates in the huge grass and forest covered lands of Germania. The peasants of the slums, up so early in the morning, already roamed the markets below.
The snow was so elegant and beautiful as it fell and covered the small paths until there was only a small hint of a trail, in those awful slums. The site of it all was absolutely magnificent in every way. There were the people moving through the slums every which way and a huge white and silver palace structure loomed in the background so boldly saying, “ don’t mess with Rome”. The gentle snow falling on the city also represented the very cold time of year in the Germanic area.
“Two severous, two severous!” A storeowner would advertise.
“ I’ll give you one severous for that and you know that’s all it is worth,” a commoner would bargain. It was a normal scene out on the beggar’s market in the morning.
Loud stamps and crunching sounds began to fill the air and the commoners, who crowded the streets, went silent. Up the snow covered marble street came thirty to forty white plated Roman soldiers. They were lead by two men, who must have been generals, on marvelous steeds. The two horses were huge and well built but could be easily controlled. Their leg muscles on them were bulging out like powerful hammers.
The marching troops all looked the same, in a way, with their black hair, well built tall bodies, and rough blood stained faces. They had just gotten back from a battle with the Persian Empire and had lost many men. They were wearing white breastplates, which covered their chest, and back, their arms covered in silver chain mail. They were also wearing White leg blocks with silver steel boots. All, of which, including their golden handled long swords, were covered in dried blood.
They had traveled for four days to make it to this area of the Roman Empire in a foreign land. Both of the generals broke to different sides of the street, the rest of the troops also divided to either side of the road. Up through the middle of the path trotted the nearly powerless, but wealthy, Caesar Commodus. All of the soldiers dropped to one knee at once and bowed their heads. The two generals lifted their swords in the air and bowed. The Caesar trotted up slowly and glimpsed into the sky.
