There are a lot of events that happen in Hatchet. Brian, the main character, has his family ripped apart because of a divorce. His father moved to Canada and Brian lives with his mother, about whom he knows a secret that he thinks causes the divorce. Brian plans to fly in a single engine plane to go visit his father, but on the flight there the pilot dies, and Brian is forced to crash the plane in a lake in the Canadian wilderness. Now Brian has to learn how to survive in the forest, dealing with hordes of bugs, bears, starvation, and depression.
