Once there was a girl named Charlotte Doyle. She was a 13-year-old girl. Her dad was going to Providence, Rhode Island for his work. This happened in 1832. Charlotte had to go where her dad was, but she had to finish her school year before she could go. When her school year was over, she went on her way to Providence. She was supposed to go with a family but they didn’t show up. She met a man named Grummage. He was with a man that carried Charlotte’s trunk, but when he heard that the ship was the Seahawk, he ran away, like he was scared of the ship. This happened about 3 times with 3 different men! Charlotte later found out that the captain’s name was Captain Jaggery. The ship had a big, ugly hawk on the bow of the ship. Its mouth was wide open, like it was an angry angel. When she got on the ship, she met a black man named Zachariah. He gave her a dirk and said that she might need it.
Throughout the book, Charlotte becomes friends with the captain. But she finds out by Zachariah that Captain Jaggery is a bad man. There is a storm that Charlotte said would be man-made. At first the storm is man-made, but it becomes a real storm. I think you should read this book because it is a really good book.
