Title: Sounder
Armstrong Sounder
116 pp.
This book is about a boy and his dog named Sounder. The boy and is family are very poor. The crop is bad and the game is rare. The father decides to steal food from the white mans smoke house, but gets caught. The father is arrested at his house. Sounder tries to protect his master but gets shot. The father was sentenced to a year of labor at quarries. The boy decides to go find his father. He didn’t find his father, but at one camp, a guard smashed his fingers. On his way home, He stopped by a schoolhouse to see if he could get his hand washed. The teacher offered to let him stay in the fall to go to school. Overall this was a good book but I’d have to give it a 4.5 because it’s not the kind of book I’m interested in. The illustrations were good also.
