At an old cabin when racial prejudice was a common assurance in the country. This book outlines the lives of a boy and his family including his father, mother, brothers, the boy’s sisters, and their wonderful coon dog Sounder. It was a harsh winter and game was scarce. They barely had any food to survive. So the father stole some food, and that’s when their lives became a disaster.
At first the family was living a mild life, but soon it would turn into a disaster. The father was thrown in hard labor and the family was living a very poor life. After a while though the father came home. His whole right side couldn’t work. The next day the boy and the father went hunting with their dog Sounder. After a while in the woods the father collapsed and died and Sounder died of loneliness.
