Title: The Austere Academy by Lemony Snicket

If you didn't like The Bad Beginning, The Reptile Room, The Wide Window or the Miserable Mill, then you'll hate The Austere Academy, the fifth book in the A Series of Unfortunate Events series by Lemony Snicket, because it's just like the others.

The books are very well written. Tragic comedies or comic tragedies? I'm not sure. But they are very sad and very funny. They tell the story of three orphans,Violet, Klaus and Sunny Baudelaire. They have gone to four foster homes already - one of which was the evil Count Olaf's - a different one for each book. This time they go to a school where they meet Count Olaf yet again and yet again he tries to steal their fortune.

Although not one of my favourites in the series, I like the book because it is very clever and has very clever language and explains the meaning of all the difficult words. I also like the way the book is published - the book has strange and wonderful edges which are roughly cut up to give the impression of being a sad, old book.

Lemony Snicket always starts his books by warning the readers that it is a very sad story and that if they are looking for a happy story they had best make another selection. All the books are dedicated to the mysterious Beatrice. In this book the humourous and sad dedication is:
For Beatrice - You will always be in my heart, in my mind, and in your grave.
The illustrations, done by Brett Helquist are unfortunately brilliant and helped bring the miserable book to life.

I would not recommend The Austere Academy because it is very sad and very funny.
