Title: The Animal Swimming Carnival - Part 1
Once there was a puppy called Kippy who was sent a letter saying that he was invited to a swimming carnival in Holoday Swamp. So he packed his swimmers and set off for Holoday Swamp. When he got there it was crowded with animals - dogs, cats, birds, fish and a hippo wearing a pink swimming costume. 'Attention! Attention! Please go to get a number,' a tall sea snake called into a microphone. 'The number tub is over there by the swamp. Go and make a line in front of it.' When it was his turn to get a number he wiggled his hand around and he pulled out 22. Then he walked over to get a number singlet. The animal that gave him his singlet was a large, smiling hippo with a pink hat. 'What's your number, dear,' she said and Kippy told her his number and muttering 'Yes, yes, here we are' she held up a singlet with 22 on it in green writing.
'Please go to your number,' said the snake. 'It is written on the stone which you will be diving off.' When Kippy found 22 he stood very still, looking around at the other animals. 'Now I will just tell you the rules,' said the snake. 'No going out of the swamp is a rule and the other rule is nothing that helps you swim and that is all. Thank you. Ready … steady … GO!!!'
Down the swamp the animals went until something stopped them. It was a loud whirring sound. All the animals climbed out of the swamp to reveal a mouse with a motor tied on his leg. 'Attention! attention! Bob the mouse has a motor on his leg,' said the sea snake. 'Bob Mouse, you are out!' Bob climbed out of the swamp very sadly. He took the motor off and put it in the dustbin. Then he went over to the sea snake so the snake could see his number and it was 12. Then Bob was sent out of the swamp area. 'Sorry about that, all of you,' said the sea snake. 'Now go back to the starting line and 12 will be empty.' So all the animals except Bob ran back to the starting line to begin the race all over again. Numbers 11 and 13 looked at the empty place between them uneasily. 'Ready again, steady again and go!' the sea snake yelled through a loudspeaker.
