Title: Why?

When I got up that morning,
I was thinking about school.
What I was going to wear
What I was going to do.

But when my mom walked in,
She said, “Quick, turn on the TV!”
I thought something’s really wrong,
She’s never said that to me.

So I turned on the TV,
And she flipped it to the news.
Then I saw the Twin Towers,
And I knew this would be all over the schools.

I finished getting ready,
And my mom took me to school.
But when I got there,
Everyone was blue.

The girls were crying,
And the boys were acting weird.
My teachers’ eyes were red,
But no one said a word.

First period went the same,
Everything went normally.
But when second period rolled around,
My teacher talked to us orally.

She said we’re part of history
And that we’ll never be the same.
She said we should write down everything
Because if we forgot that would be a shame.

So my day went by
With very few discrepancies.
But when I came home again,
My mother said her day was filled with irregularities.

The people were all so sad,
Many of the kids cried too.
Much of the conversations,
Revolved around the question, “Who?”

So we watched the news that night,
Something we never do.
And when it was over,
We all wanted to know who.

Everyone had suspicions,
About the whats, whys, and whos.
But what we all lacked and needed
Were important and vital clues.

We found out later,
What sick mind made this happen.
And instead of being angry,
All I wanted to know was,
“Why?”
