Title: Crookshanks' Secret Love (Chapter 3)
Crookshanks sat in the Common Room, waiting impatiently for the meeting time. Suddenly Ginny rushed into the Common Room, crying.
'What is wrong?' Hermione asked, who had been in the chair next to Crookshanks'.
'I heard that Mrs. Norris (Crookshanks pricked up his ears) is sick,' Ginny managed to say between sobs. 'They say she is dying!'
Mrs. Norris? Sick? Dying? Crookshanks leaped off Hermione so fast you would have thought that he sat on a bee. He zoomed up into the dormitories, zipped down the tunnels towards Filch's office. No one was there.
'Maybe the Hospital Wing.' He raced down the tunnels as if Death was at his heels (although Death might be on his way to meet Mrs. Norris). He skidded to a stop at the Hospital Wing. Crookshanks carefully opened. Filch was sitting in a chair, his face in his hands, say something like 'Why? Why did it have to be her?' His hands were slightly shaking.
Madam Pomfrey was saying, 'You know that I am the only nurse that would cure pets. You're lucky.'
'Lucky?' Filch looked up with a pale face. 'No, I'm not lucky. If I were lucky this would not happen.'
Madam Pomfrey was bustling over something. A figure that seemed familiar….
MRS. NORRIS! Although it was not the Mrs. Norris he knew. Her ears were not perked up, listening for rule breakers. Her eyes were closed and she had a starved look. A strange rasping sound came every time she took a breath.
'Is there chance she can get better?' Filched asked.
'If she can get the right medication, yes. But…' Her voice trailed off.
'But?'
'I am missing the Kenya leaves. They grow up north at Mt. Kenya. I need them by the next full moon, which is a week away. If not gotten she--she won't make it.'
Filch started to shake non-stop at these words. Madam Pomfrey helped him out.
Crookshanks took this time to dash across the floor to Mrs. Norris. He leapt onto the bed. He crept towards Mrs. Norris, stopping every so often to listen if Madam Pomfrey was returning. Crookshanks carefully bent over her and whispered very softly 'Don't worry. I won't let you die.'
