Title: "Thankful . . ."

All the gold in all the land
Is naught this autumn day
Place no treasure in my hand
From jewels I'll turn away
For what I'm thankful,
I do not know
I'm as unpredictable
As the last winter snow
The game of life,
I reluctantly play
But on this bright, happy day
On a level of abstract,
I love my brain
Whose strained and racked
Slaved away
Through day and night
My mom and dad
who gave me might
The warm embrace
of love's sweet glow,
For what I'm thankful,
Now I know:
I thank the heavens
Up above
For my mind, my life,
And a family's love.
