Title: The Dodo and the Swan

Odette stared up into the night sky, her glittering eyes even brighter than usual. Her golden beak shone in the light of the stars and her soft silky feathers swayed in the gentle breeze. Seeing a shooting star, she whispered, 'I wish, I wish somebody loved me.' and then she fell asleep.

When she woke up the next day she was on an island with large palm trees bearing coconuts and large, colourful toucans. She saw a bird approaching and hid behind a palm tree. It was a dodo, the only dodo in the world. The dodo approached a toucan that was perched on a tree nearby. The Last Dodo said in a romantic voice,
'Foreld, I have heard of a bird which is right for me. It is called a swanhen. It has a golden beak, glittering green eyes and feathers so soft it's as if you were touching an angel in heaven above. I want you to find me a swanhen and quickly, too. If you cannot find one do not come back to this island because your destiny is to find a swanhen. Now, go!'

Odette stared. He wanted a swan, her. 'And that's what he shall get.' she thought. She flew out from behind the tree and cried, 'I am a swan. I am what you ask for. You are my love.'
'You are a swanhen,' he said. 'You are the most beautiful swanhen in the world.'
'You are the most beautiful dodo in the world.'
'I am the only dodo in the world.'
'I do not care,' Odette cried, 'I love you and you love me, so, will you marry me?'
'Yes,' he cried, 'I will, I will.'
So they were married and lived happily on the little island on the glittering Indian sea.
