Title: That Wheelchair (poem)

That Wheelchair
I lived in a wheelchair.
A wheelchair was all that people saw.
They would stand there pitying me.
They would ask if I needed help.

Why, if you were born a cripple
Why, if you never knew how to walk
Why, would people ask to help you?
Why wouldn't they encourge you instead?

It was probably the hardest question
I've ever needed to answer.
I spent nights and days just
thinking
Sitting in that wheelchair outside.

People just don't know
How it feels to live in a wheelchair.
People just don't get it
When I try to live by myself.

They always think I need help.
They would pity me, spoil me, cry for me
But why can't people live on with the horrible saddening truth?

Yeah, I know right now you pity me.
You think "this is so sad"
you think I am a poor helpless child
Ans that I could never be normal, like you.

Oh, but people just don't understand
They're killing me with their pity.
They're burying my hopes and my life
With those tearfull eyes of theirs.

And it's all
Because of that
Wheelchair.
