Title: The Secret of Three Quarters - Chapter Two
'Ron?' Harry moaned, his voice shrill with disbelief.
Ron's face was white, as if some kind of thin powdery substance had been sprinkled over it, because Harry could still see his original skin color here and there. His eyes were closed, and he lay silent and unmoving, so at first Harry thought he was dead. As he prepared to cry, his breath caught in his throat as Ron stirred slightly.
'Ron?' he whispered again, leaning even closer and studying him. Maybe he was just Stunned. But Harry had forgotten the counter curse for Stunning, even though he'd only learned it last year for the Triwizard Tournament. No, Ron wasn't Stunned. Stunned people were frozen completely, and he was moving a little. But would Ron ever wake?
George and Fred knelt next to him. They both looked like they had been crying, as their eyes were red. Harry felt hot watery tears prick his own.
'What - what happened?' he asked them in a low voice.
George shrugged, but Fred said, 'I know.' He took a deep breath. 'Well, we were just playing a game, you know, a little joke on Ron. We wore black hoods and were chasing him around Diagon Alley -'
'Yeah, I remember now,' George interrupted. 'We just wanted to have a little fun with him, so we were pretending to be dementors. Well, we chased him near the barrier, and then this - this high-pitched voice blasted in our ears. It said something, and then - I dunno, someone must've performed Crucio, because -'
'I know,' Harry murmured. 'I know what it feels like. Go on.'
'Well, we were left unconscious - the voice must've Stunned us, but then someone woke us up, and then we came running here. I dunno what happened to Ron, the voice must've done something like what it did to us, but it's different. It's much worse.'
