Title: The Secret of Three Quarters - Chapter Three
Harry stared at them. 'There's some things I don't understand,' he said. 'Where're your mum and dad? And Ginny?'
Fred sighed. 'They're at Gringotts getting money. Ron, George, and me already have ours. They should be out by now, looking for us.'
'Right,' said Harry. 'Um, tell me more about this - this voice. Where did it come from?'
George shuddered. 'I don't like to remember it. It was horrible.'
'Here, I'll tell him,' Fred offered. He turned back to Harry. 'It came from inside the barrier. It was all high-pitched, like I told you before, and made me feel all weird inside. It was like - like nothing I'd ever experienced before. You could tell that it belonged to someone bad - someone really bad. It just gave you that feeling that bad people always have. It sounded cold, like -'
'Like ice,' Harry finished for him.
George looked confused. 'How d'you know?' he asked.
'Because I heard that voice before. Once, at a time I hardly remember. Once, three years ago. Once, last year...last year was the worst. Last year was the year...' Harry broke off. By this time, the two brothers were nearly fainting with fear.
'Not - not - not - You-Know-Who?' Fred whispered.
'It has to be. Who else would lurk around here, performing Crucio on people? And his Death Eaters don't have voices like that.'
'But why not just kill us?' Fred asked, looking puzzled. 'Why do Crucio?'
'Don't you understand? If he outright killed somebody, everybody'd know for sure it was him. But people might think now that it was one of his Death Eaters, and go tracking them down instead, not look for him. He also wants us to panic, since when people are scared, they grow weaker. He's trying to find the perfect time to strike.'
'You are correct, Harry,' said a voice.
