Title: Chapter 1: The Entrance

We were all writing our essays when the new girl walked in, accompanied by the principal. Everyone looked up at the noise of the door opening and saw the two of them walk into the classroom. I would have studied the girl closely, but the principal blocked my view of her too much to see what she really looked like.
''Boys and girls, may I have your attention, please?'' the principal asked. We all looked up at him.
''We seem to have a new girl in the class,'' said the teacher, looking pleased. Before we could do anything, she launched into a droning speech about being nice to her and showing her around the school. I wanted to laugh when she finally came out from behind the principal, because she was barely three feet high! She looked like she belonged in kindergarten. I raised my hand. So did many others.
''Yes, Alicia?'' the teacher frowned as she called on me.
''Well, it seems that we all think that she, well, belongs in kindergarten!''
The frown lines on her face grew deeper. She called on someone else. ''Gregory, is this true?''
''Call me Greg. And yes.''
She shook her head as she turned to the principal for help. ''Could you please help me convince these children that their thoughts are not true.''
The principal sighed miserably. ''Actually, they are true.''
The teacher stared at him. ''What?''
''Apparently, she's a super-genius. This is the fourth grade, correct?''
''Yes...''
''Well, she should be in high school with that brain of hers, but fourth grade was the highest her parents could put her.''
''Does she have any sisters or brothers?'' I blurted out without thinking. The teacher glared, and I cringed in my chair.
The principal looked at me gravely. ''You see, that's the problem...''
