Title: Cinderella: The Real Version pt 1.
Anastasia and Dresalda twirled around me, excitedly waving scarves around my head.
“Oh, but you must come, Cindy! It will be the most fantastic ball ever!”
I rolled my eyes and scrubbed the floor harder. “I have absolutely no interest in a silly ball. They are for people with not enough time on their hands. Why would anyone want to be dancing when they could easily be sweeping a floor, or washing some clothes?”
Anastasia, with her big strong arms, pulled me to my feet. I am rather skinny for my age, so I was nearly picked right off my feet. She put her hands on her hips and looked at me crossly.
“Cinderella. If you think you’re going to spend your entire life hiding behind a dust mop-“
“I don’t want to go to your stupid ball!” I shouted, flinging my rag down. “Now I have too many chores to do for you to be bothering me!” With that I tossed my blonde hair over my shoulder and stomped out of the room. Behind me I heard Dresalda mutter to Anastasia.
“She’s an odd one, that Cindy. Would rather wash floors then marry a prince.”
I scoffed. “Ha! Marry a prince? So I can sit on my rump all day and stare at the dusty old curtains and the muddy floors? I should certainly hope not!”
Step-mother came out of her room suddenly, long black dress trailing along the wooden floor. She stopped and looked alarmed as I strode by, bucket of water banging against my hip.
“Cindy? Cinderella?” she called after me. “Why aren’t you dressed yet? The carriage arrives in fifteen minutes!”
“I’m not going!” I shouted over my shoulder. “I never wanted to go in the first place!”
Step-mother humphed very loudly and stomped her foot. “Fine! Be a stick in the mud! You can stay home and wash the walls instead!”
I pondered this alternative. Yes…the walls could do with a good washing. It was certainly better than going to a stupid ball!
