Title: Cinderella: The Real Version pt.2

I jogged into the kitchen to refill my bucket. Now where should I start first? Dining room? Music room? Hallway? I hummed a song under my breath while pumping water into the bucket. There was nothing better than a good wall washing!
Suddenly a flash of light filled the room. I whirled around to see a plump, elderly woman sitting cross legged on the counter. Great. Another fairy godmother.
“I know what you want!” she said, pointing her finger at me. “You want to go to the ball, don’t you?”
“Actually, I-“
“Now just hold on a minute,” she said, searching through her robes. “I’ll have you ready to go in two seconds flat. Once I find that blasted wand…”
“But I don’t-“
“Yes, I know. You don’t want to go in that dress. Well I can fix that, no problem!” she chattered happily. The woman was obviously in her element, so I watched her for a minute. She finally pulled her wand out of her pocket, and smiled affectionately at it.
“There’s a good girl, now. Now what was that chant again?” she wondered aloud.
“Bibbity bobbity boo?” I suggested.
“No, no. That’s Annie’s chant. Mine is different,” she murmured. Her brow furrowed as she thought harder and harder. Finally, tears began to come to her eyes as she tried to remember the chant. I shook my head and snatched the wand out of the fairy godmother’s hand.
“Look, lady. I appreciate you coming out and all, but I’m really not interested in attending any ball. I’d rather just be home washing things.”
She blinked once and stared at me. “What? You don’t want to go to the ball?”
I shook my head definitely. “Absolutely not! But if it wouldn’t be too much trouble, could you heat this water up a little?”
She grinned and sighed. “Thank goodness. I hate doing these ball-things. They take so much out of me…” She sighed and smiled at me. “One bucket of hot water, coming right up!” She pointed her wand at the bucket and suddenly the water was steaming hot. I bent down and sniffed it. Mm mm. Nothing like good old washing water to put you in the right mood!
I shook the fairy’s hand. “Pleasure doing business madam.”
She hopped off the table. “Are you sure you don’t want to go? I think I might have a nice pumpkin lined up.”
“Sorry,” I apologized. “I don’t dance.”
“Oh well. That sort of thing happens I guess,” grinned the fairy godmother. “Must be off then. Goodbye!”
With a flick of her wrist she was gone. I smiled, picked up my bucket of water, and went off to wash the walls in peace.
