BUTLER THE TALKING DOG
by William Lawes Blowers, Jr.

Chapter 1
The run away troop
Once upon a time there was a dog named Butler. Once Butler walked up to me and said, "Want a pot of tea?" I was surprised Butler could talk! I told him, "Yes I would like some tea."
"Hey, I have an idea, let’s go to my house to get a pot of tea!" "Great
idea!", said Butler. So we took a walk to my house. Finally we made it to my
house. First we went past my dad. He said, "What is this dog doing in my
house?" "Well, me and Butler are getting a pot of tea," I said. "Can I have a pot
of tea too?" said dad. "Yes! you can have a pot of tea," I replied.
Then we went past my mom. My mom said, "What is this dog doing in my
house?" "Well, he wants some tea," I said. "Really, he wants some tea?" mom
said. "What kind of tea? Plain tea or iced tea?" "Any kind of tea you would like!"
I told her. So off we went.
Then we went past my sister. My sister said, "What is your dog doing in
our house?" she said. "Well, he wanted to have a pot of tea," we said. "Oh!
Hey. Have you had a bath?" asked my sister. "Of course I have had a bath!" he
said impolitely. "Oh, can I have some tea too?" said my sister. "Well, do you
even like tea?" I asked. "I don’t know if I like tea," my sister said. "Well now if
you don’t like tea will you at least try it?" I asked. "Well okay" she said. So she
tasted the tea. "Yuck! Gross! I don’t like tea! I don’t want to taste it again!, said
my sister. "So", my sister said, "Can we have cocoa cola instead?" "No way!
We’re on a diet" they said impolitely! "Well if we don’t have anything I like I’ll,
I’ll, I’ll just run away!" said my sister. "What will we do if she run’s away?" we
said. "What is something we can’t have but she can? Maybe hi-C!" I said.
"Great idea!", said Butler.
So we went and asked my sister if she wanted hi-C. She said, "Hi-C with
what? Um, hi-C with pizza!" "What will the pizza and hi-C be with?" she said
impolitely. "Well it will be with chocolate cake!" we told her. "Well okay, I’ll just
have tea" she said. So my sister said, "Now what is taking so long for my food?"
"Well it will take at least three hours or so", we said. "Well okay. Hey, will you
turn on the TV?" she asked. So I did turn it to channel 29.
Me and my parents went to the kitchen and talked. We said, "What are
we going to do with your sister?" "I mean she is really going wild." "Well there is
one thing to do," I said. "What?" my mom and dad said. "Send her to her room!"
"Great idea." So we walked where the TV was and told my sister to go to her
room. She said, "No!" "What did you say young lady?" I said. "I said NO!"
"Well if you don’t turn off your attitude I’ll bring you to your room." "I don’t care if
you send me to my room, but you better get me the hi-C and pizza and the
chocolate cake!" "No I won’t get you the Hi-C , the pizza, or the chocolate cake!"
"Oh yeah, then I’ll run away before you can catch me!" she said.
So she ran out the door and ran as fast as she could out of the
neighborhood. But my dad got in his car and followed her but then he couldn’t
find her. He didn’t know which way she went, straight, left, or right. First he
went straight, but she ran’t going straight. Then he turned right. He drove right.
He drove and drove and he finally said to himself, "She is not heading right." So
he turned around and went left. he drove so far he almost drove five miles.
"Well, where could she be?"
So he drove all the way back to our house. He said to me and my mom,
"She wasn’t straight. She wasn’t left or right." "So where could she be?"
"Maybe she ran outside and hid." So we went outside in the backyard. No. She
wan not there. Where could she be?
"I know where she might be." I said. "Let’s get in your car dad and I’ll
draw the map where I think she is hiding. Now first go out of the neighborhood.
Then drive not too far straight and then stop and get out of the car." "Look in the
ditch and, if she is not in the ditch, then where in the world can your sister be?"
said dad. "I don’t know where she can be." I said.
"Well maybe we’re just dreaming" my mom said. "Well if we’re dreaming
then let’s just hurry up and wake up" I said. Well first we tried to wake up by
getting scared, but we didn’t wake up. "Maybe we are not dreaming and she did
run away!" I said. Well if she really ran away, then we better hurry up and find
her", mom said. "Okay let’s go find your sister."
First, we looked in the back of the van. Butler looked in his dog house,
but she was not in Butler’s dog house. We brought Butler for a walk so he could
sniff around and bring us the right way of where she has hid or ran away. We
thought Butler found her but he only found another person. "We are not having
any luck finding my five year old sister," I said. "I mean, she is only five years
old." "How far could she go?" "Well it might take us an hour or more to find
her." "Maybe it could be a day before we find her," I said. "We don’t want it to
take more than a day. If it takes more than a day I ground her from TV for her
whole life.!" "Great idea!" Butler said. "What if it takes us more than a year?"
Butler said. "Well if it takes more than a year I’ll ground her from the computer
for the rest of her life." said dad. "Well what if we never find her?" Butler said.
"Well then I’ll only have one kid." dad said.
"Great idea! You only have one kid." I said. "Hey, what did you just say?"
my dad said. I said, "It would be great if mom and you... Yippee!" "You,
ahhhhhh! You’re grounded from friends for a day!" dad said. "Oh no, not that!"
I said. "Yes that," said dad. "Well then let’s make a deal." I said. "Here’s the
deal. If we find her then you will not be grounded from friends for a week!" said
dad. "Thank You!" I said.
"So let’s hurry up and find her. Okay? First I look on Dunwoody Drive.
Dad, you look on Rolling Meadows Lane. And mom, you look on Chamble
Drive" I told them. "And Butler you know where you are supposed to go! Right!"
I said. "Okay let’s go and find her". When we covered the whole neighborhood,
it took us more than five hours! So we met back at our house. My dad said,
"She is not on Rolling Meadows Lane." My mom said, "She is not on Chamble
Drive." Butler said, "She is not where I was looking". "And she was not where I
was looking", I said. "So there is only one place where she is."
"Where is that?" my dad said. "Lincolnshire Place." So we jogged over to
Lincolnshire place. So we looked for one hour. We were looking in all of the
hiding spots until we just said, "We give up!" "We can’t find her!" "But where
could she be?" "Maybe she is hiding in the boat" "Yeah! the boat!"
So we looked in the boat. I climbed in the boat and said, "No! She’s not
in the boat." "Hmmmm, where in the world is she?" "Maybe she is in the porch."
"No way!" "Remember she went out the front door." "Well maybe she went out
and went in the back yard to the porch." So Butler looked in the porch. But she
wasn’t there. Butler said, "What is the starting of her running away?" "Well,
remember when you know who didn’t like the tea?" "Oh!" Butler said. "Then
why did she run away?" "Because she wanted cocoa-cola." "But that is no
reason to run away." said Butler. "Well it is to her." I said. "Oh!" Butler said.
"Wait a minute!" Butler said. "Why are we just standing here?" "What did you
mean?" "I mean we better start looking for her." "OK! Great idea Butler." "Let’s
take one more look where we have been before." "Let’s hurry up before the day
is over." "On your mark!" "Get set!" "Go!" So we looked and we looked until...
"I give up. It is already dark." "We will never find her." "Where is she?" "Maybe
in South Carolina already."
Meanwhile my sister was at her friend Megan’s house playing with her
and her toys, while we were thinking where in the world is she hiding out. And
my sister was telling Megan why she has ran away and never coming back.
Megan said, "If you don’t come back, I’ll, I’ll, I’ll just not be your best friend." "But
Megan." my sister said. "Where can I hide out?" "Well hid out at someone
else’s house," said Megan. "Okay, then I’ll hide out at Taylor’s house." So she
went out to Taylor’s house. She and the doorbell, "ding dong". "Brooke!" Taylor
said excitedly. Taylor opened the door. Then my sister said, "Taylor can you
play?" "I’ll ask" he said. "Mommy!" "Yes", Taylor’s mom said. "Can Brookie
play?" "Well okay, but only for five or less", she said. So Taylor went back to
the door. He said, "Yes, Brooke. You can play, but only for five hours or less."
"Well okay." Brooke said.
"What do you want to play?" Brooke asked. "How about
hide-and-go-seek?" "Okay Brooke you’re it." "Okay Brooke count to twenty."
"One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten, eleven, twelve, thirteen,
fourteen, fifteen, sixteen, seventeen, eighteen, nineteen, twenty!" "Ready or not
here I come!" "Now where can he be," she said to herself. First she looked by
the trees... but he was not there. Could he be in the woods behind the house.
Then she got lost. But she found Taylor’s cat and followed her back. Meanwhile
her mom and dad were worried. Even me and Butler were worried. "Now where
is she?"
The next day we went out looking for her. My dad said, "Why are we
looking for her?" "Yeah!" "Why are we looking for her," I said. "Anyway she was
a brat." "And I hate her." "You what!" my dad said. "Nothing!" I said. "If you tell
me what you said I won’t ground you from friends" dad said. "Okay, I said that
Brooke was a brat and I hate her." "Oh, you’re grounded from friends" my dad
said. "But you said if I told you-" " I told you nothing," he said. "But then I’ll just
run away too!" "Oh no you won’t," my dad said.
But then I rushed out the front door and went to my friend Keel’s house,
while my parents went and got my other friend Corey. So they all looked for me.
"Hey!" my mom said. "Why don’t we look at the places Brooke hid?" Corey said.
"Great idea, Corey, Butler and..." "Hey!" Butler said, "Where is Bill?" "I don’t
know." Corey and my mom said together, "Uh oh!" So they looked and looked
for my dad.
Meanwhile me and Keel were playing with his Nintendo. The game was
called donkey king 1 and 2. I only made it to the rain forest, and Keel always
beat me. Keel has a brother and sister named Rod and Kristen. Rod and
Kristen were real mean.
On weekends me and Keel went to the voodoo sticks. The voodoo sticks
were real close to my house.
later on while Corey and my mom were looking for me, Brooke and my dad,
Corey said, "This is ridiculous!" "I don’t want to help you because, because I just
don’t want to. Bye! Bye!!!!!!!!!!" So Corey went home.
Me and Keel were bored. We did not know what to do. Soon Keel’s mom
said, "Keel, it’s time for B.J. to leave." So I left and went to my friend Jeremy’s
house. It took a long time to get to Jeremy’s house because he lived a long way
from our neighborhood. He lived in Birch Creek. Then I was at his house. I
rang the doorbell and his mom opened the door.
I said, "Hi! Can Jeremy play?" "Well yeah you can play", she said.
"Jeremy come here." "One of your friends is here to play with you!" she said
very loudly to Jeremy. "I’m coming mom, just a second," Jeremy said. Then I
saw Jeremy coming down the stairs. "BJ!" he said excitedly. "Why are you
here?" "Well never-mind that. Can you play?" "Well no. I can’t play." "Why
can’t you play?" I said. "Well I just don’t feel like playing!" "Okay! Okay!" I said.
So his mom shut the door in my face. I was mad as a hornet! I rang the doorbell
again. His mom opened the door and said," you again?" "Yeah me! Why can’t
Jeremy play and why did you slam the door in my face?" "Well because Jeremy
doesn’t know you! Okay?" "Oh yes---earn, oopsey! Sorry about this Mrs..."
So I walked to my friend Kelly’s house. When I got to his house I rang the
doorbell. "Ding dong!" Kelly’s mom opened the door. "B-dge" "I’ll go get Kelly
all right." "Kelly, your friend B.J. is here to play with you." "Coming!" Kelly is my
third best friend. Kelly came rushing down the stairs. Kelly said, "Hey B-dge!"
"What do you want to play?" "How about monkey in the middle." "Okay!" "Wait
a minute", Kelly said, "Who’s in the middle?" "How about Corey!"
So we got on our bikes and rode down to Corey’s house. So now we
were at Corey’s house. Me and Kelly walked up to Corey’s house and rang the
doorbell. "Ding dong Ding dong." Corey opened the door. Me and Kelly said,
"Hi Corey." "Want to play Monkey in the middle?" "Okay!" "I’m in the middle!" I
said. "Okay, let’s play." So Kelly threw the ball over my head and Corey caught
it. So then Corey threw the ball and I caught it. Me and Kelly said, "Corey’s in
the middle! Corey’s in the middle." So Corey got in the middle. I threw the ball
to Kelly and Kelly caught it. Corey just stood there. Corey doesn’t like to be in
the middle. Corey always gets mad when Kelly teases him by saying, "Here
Corey, you can have it!" But when Corey tries to get the ball Kelly runs as fast
as he can to the ball. He gets to the ball before Corey gets to it. That is another
reason Corey doesn’t like the game.
So then Corey says, "I don’t want to play this stupid game any more!" "I
want to play Hide-and-go-seek!" So we are playing hide-and-go-seek. So now
I’m it. "Here I go!" "One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten,
eleven, twelve, thirteen, fourteen, fifteen, sixteen, seventeen, eighteen, nineteen,
twenty, twenty-one, twenty-two, twenty-three, twenty-four, twenty-five, twenty-six,
twenty-seven, twenty-eight, twenty-nine, thirty!" "Ready or not!" "Here I come"
So I saw Kelly’s head behind Butler. So then I walked very slowly towards
Butler and when I got about five feet from Butler then I stopped and ran as fast
as I can to Kelly. Kelly got up but I tagged him before he could run and get
away from me. So Kelly went up to count. He counted real fast to 100. When
he got to 100 he started looking for us. He say Corey under the trampoline. he
raced to Corey. Corey got out from under the trampoline and ran to base. Kelly
ran after him. Then I started to run to base. Kelly already got Corey. Corey
went up to count. "One, two, three-skip a few, nineteen, twenty!"
"Ready-or-not!" "Here I come!" Corey didn’t know that I was in the dog house.
But he knew Kelly was in the garage, and in the boat. So Corey went in the
garage to get Kelly. When he was in the garage Butler walked up to the dog
house. He said, "B.J., what in the world are you doing here?" "Well, I don’t
want to talk about it right now Butler." "I am in the middle of a game of
hide-and-go-seek." "Butler, I can’t talk now, I mean Corey can come out of the
garage any second now." "How about we talk when Corey and Kelly go home all
right, Butler?" "No we can’t talk tonight." "Remember you are sleeping over at
Kelly’s house remember?" "Oh, yeah." "Well then hurry up and talk what you
have to say." "Okay, Okay", Butler said, "Hold your horses!" "Here’s what I have
to say." "Bill you have to go back to your mom and dad." "And they are worried
about you." "So go back and help your mom and dad find your sister." "No
way." "I’m not helping them." "I’m not going to do it." "Now get away Butler."
"Okay, bye!" I just heard Corey come out of the garage. I got our of the dog
house as fast as I could and touched base. Corey told me that he tagged Kelley.
So then I said bring me to him. And then I said very, very loud, "TIME OUT!"
"Now where is he Corey?"
"Well follow me," he said. So I followed Corey into the garage. Kelly was
in the boat! So I asked Kelly if Corey tagged him. He said, "Yes, Corey did tag
me, but he tagged me so hard I got hurt." "That’s why Corey came out and told
you that. . ." "Let me guess, he said that he tagged you, right?" "Huh!" Kelly
said. "He was supposed to say that I was hurt and tell you to come help me."
"Well then what are we going to do with Corey?" "Kelly come here, here’s the
plan-Since you’re it right well don’t tag me and tag Corey harder than he tagged
you Okay, count!" He counted to 20 and then he said, "Ready-or-not, here I
come!" I was hiding under the trampoline. Corey was in my mom’s van, but then
Kelly came to me and asked, "Where is Corey?" "He is somewhere in the
garage." I said. "Okay, go and get him Kelly."
