Title: A Speck of Nothingness

Chapter 1

My name is Matt, and I am a serf. I am 10 years old and my mother died from disease before I could remember. It's a boring life, seems like all we do around here is work and sleep. We hardly get anything to eat, most of the time it's porridge and occasionally we get bread and cheese. Some days my father will go out to harvest stone from the quarry. There was recently a war and the castle, Lorderon, was battered up. It was hard work getting stone.

Chapter 2 The Dungeon

My father decided to borrow some stone to use for something to sit on; bad idea. The Lord caught him and put him in the dungeon. I followed the knights that were escorting him down into the dungeon. They put him in a cell with 3 other people.
"Sorry, this happened," I said.

"It's not your fault," he replied. "I should have thought before I did it." the other men in the cell just stared blankly in the air.

Everyday I would not eat by bread each day and sneak the rest dwon to my father. His inmates always tried to steal the bread. i tried to help my father as much as I could. If often brouight flowers and berries I had picked. He enjoyed this very much but what came later neither of us would enjoy.

Chapter 3 the Plague

I first heard of the plague when I was out in the fields. there was a man is dreadful pain, practically crippled from the disease. He looked very much like my father. I could barely work. the screaming made me feel so guilty. This traumatized me for the rest of my life. I would think of this man screaming so loudly, the one who looked like my father.
Soon one of the poeple in my shack got sick, then another, and another. It was too dangerous to work in the fields. My father insisted I work in a monastery. I didn't want to leave, but I finally realized that I had to go!

Chapter 4 The Journey

Once I got to the monastery, they made me take a vow of silence that means you can't talk. they made us get up a midnight every night to go to church. After that we went bakc to seleep and got up at 6:00 a.m. We went to church again adn then to work.
I have to go to the scriptorium and copy long lines of symbols. I gegan to study the symbols. I tried to figure out what each of them meant. Eventually, I got a vague understanding of what they meant.

Chapter 5 Unfinished

I saw the door open, it was one of the people who was running after me. She said, "Have you seen a boy run this way?"
"No," the man replied weakily.
"If you see a boy in a Monk's robe, bring him to the monastery immediately," exclaimed the woman.
Once everything looked safe, I stepped out from behind the piece of stone.
"Are you all right?" the man asked.
I paused for a second and say the light catch his face. He was my father!
"What happened? How did you escape? I thought you caught the plague?"
