Title: Can I do it?

“ Can I do it?”
“Last year’s girl’s and boy’s soccer turned out into a bully game when the game was between Church and Edmonton,” yelled the voice of Ms. Gillis into the loudspeaker, “We hope it doesn’t happen this time. Today we will have our Church and Winnipeg. Our girls have been winning every single game from the first day of the ongoing games. So have our boys. The champ of girls has always been Donna Chalk and we hope she can lead us again. Today we’re boarding the Winnipeg train. If you want to come please do. That was the end of the announcements…have a good day.”

“Okay,” said Ms. Holloway, “Congrats, Donna...you were great. Now would you please tell me who has permission slips for um, the Winnipeg plane.” Several kids raised their hands. Between them were Kim and Ushma, the class meanie-mos. “Here, give them to me,” said Ms. Holloway, “Now would you please flip over to your Morning Work or M.W?” My cheeks were so red that I felt like a cranberry. You might have been waiting for the main character. That’s me! My name is Donna Chalk. I am the girl’s soccer champ!!! My best friends Callie Comrie and Leane Munk are in the soccer team too. Hooray!

“Social admonition is being welcomed for years and years and years,” read Dixie Campbell. We were divided in our reading groups and were reading S.E.T (Science Environment Technology). Next we’d have to work on Projectile Stops (P.S). We did all these things just to practice for the E.Q.A.O in November and the I.T.I.Q in June. This was in the Curriculum. Mum says that my twin sister Dinah and I were born book lovers and Sportswomen.

Then came the lovely event. I packed my soccer jersey, pants and lucky charm in my suitcase. I fixed my long dark hair into a ponytail. I pulled out my lucky hair lock. I looked for my seat. I was so tall that I had to duck my head through the door. My seat number was A1. My seatmates were Leane, Callie and Kim. I was happy when Leane and Callie came to sit down beside me. Then Kim. Boooooo. When I looked out the window I saw Dinah crying in Mum’s lap. The window of my appt. opened and I yelled at Dinah, “Dinah, say teddies before I leave...smile before I leave!” Dinah ran to my window. “Teddies,” she yelled at my ear. Then she smiled. Then the train began to move and jerked Dinah’s hand out of my window. She began to cry again. “Dinah,” I yelled, “Say Teddies before I leave...smile before I leave.” She did.
