What is it like to go to a New World where you expect to have servants for you and end up with nothing? Ask Isobel. Her father and his motherless children travel to Canada from Scotland. On the day of Isobel's mother's mourning, a maroon diary slips out of her best dress's pocket. The first page has a touching paragraph written by Isobel's mother.
