Title: I Was Aware
I would normally come home from school tired and grungy.
I would yell at my mom, throw my books on the floor, and criticize dinner.
I would go upstairs and get ready for the big ball game.
Then I usually would do my boring homework and listen to some of my favourite records.
One day I got a sudden flow of energy, a need to explore and see people not as I would usually see them.
I got home from school restraining my regular temper.
I sat down near the window and watched the clock ticking furiously.
I lay down and watched my dad drive into the driveway from my window.
I saw my father yelling at my mother over some groceries she forgot to pick up for him.
I watched Betty the maid getting the smelly trash out of the garbage.
My mom would stay home all day and cook and clean. My dad worked at the office in the bank.
My dad was an uptight buisnessman I never really knew that about him before.
My mother was helplessly led to the dark side of feminism.
That night my mother came up to my room to say good night to me.
She looked tired and helpless but stored energy to yell at me for the way I was brushing my teeth.
My dad came quickly up the stairs and yelled at my mother for yelling at me.
"Guys," I called out.
" I lately noticed your fighting so much. It hurts me to see you in this state. What's going on with you. Can I know?"
"Well you never seemed to mind before". my parents said both at once.
"Why didn't I see it before"? I asked confused.
"You never took the time to notice. We went on fighting not aware that it hurt you," my mom said softly.
"we will try to stop fighting," my dad said firmly.
My parents left the room.
I felt superior satisfaction, WHY?
I WAS AWARE!
