Title: 1st year in Reffeny School
Chapter 10
"Alex wake up, wake up!" whispered Jesse quietly. It was about 2:00am now.
"W-what?"
"The other's are gone, let's see Amy!"
"How long have you been awake?!" she asked playfully.
"About 3 hours now."
"Wow! OK I'm up, I'm up!"
"Where is Amy then?" asked Alex.
"The operating theatre."
"OK, LOOK IT'S DOWN THERE!"
She pointed to a big white sign.
"OK let's head down there."
"J-Jesse, I'm so sorry for not believing you before. I really am!"
"That's OK!" she hugged Alex tight. "Now come on, we have to see Amy!"
They rushed down the hall. A doctor came by:
"What are you two doing here?!" he asked impatiently.
"Oh we're heading for the loos!"
"OK?"
"Come on!" Alex whispered, "I'm dying for a pee Jesse!"
They both burst with laughter.
"LOOK IT'S HERE!"
They went into the room, it was dark and quiet.
They saw Amy, lying with a drip to her throat and the heart-beat monitor going "Ba beep, ba beep, ba beep."
"A-Amy!" I whispered quietly.
"Amy?" asked Alex.
"I think she's under anaesthetic ." I said.
"There's a big hole in her rib."
"They've tried to get the bullet out!"
"Probably!"
"Well let us try then!"
"WHAT, YOU CAN'T!" Said Alex in a loud whisper.
"Why not!"
"BECAUSE YOU COULD KILL HER!" Alex said a little too loud.
"Look in there! You can see their hand-marks! That's not where the bullet went, I went further up!" said Jesse pulling on rubber gloves.
"No! Jesse no!"
Jesse felt around.
"Aha it's up here a bit. No round the corner!" (I can tell you I wasn't enjoying this)!
"I- I'VE GOT IT!"I screamed.
"YOU HAVE!" Shouted Alex.
"Excuse me what is going on he- OH DEAR LORD, DOCTOR THE BULLET WAS FOUND!" Shouted the tall ginger-haired nurse speaking into a pager.
"HU- HOW DID YOU! You shouldn't be in here! Oh my this girl will live!"
The doctor rushed in, everyone congratulated me!
"Uh- is she supposed to be grunting?!" I asked.
"Oh no, she's waking up!"
"Give her another dose and I'll get stitching her up!"
They worked and worked on the big hole, and by 4:00 in the morning she had come to!
"H-hello?" she whispered meekly.
"Hello Amy, its Nurse Ruth."
"M-my leg! WHERE IS IT!"
"Shhh darling, you need rest, you're leg was amputated by the bullet."
"Bullet? Oh JACKIE, WHERE IS SHE!"
"She's been put in a home for shooting you honey."
"But NO! SHE DIDN'T JENNY SHOT BOTH OF THEM! Jackie wanted me to live!"
"I'm sorry Amy, Jackie has committed many terrible crimes before and I think a home, will just have to be the answer. As for you, the head has informed me that you are not to be expelled. After the brave way you saved Jesse from that bullet."
Amy wept bitterly. This wasn't the kind of victory she wanted. She pushed her head in her white pillow, soaking it with tears.
"L-lets leave her." Suggested Alex.
We walked solemnly out of the room. Jesse felt a bit dizzy on the ride home from the hospital. Jesse informed her mum, that she wanted to stay at school, and felt she didn't need to stay at home. But when her mum had her back turned, she sneaked Chester into the car. They drove to Reffeny with Sylvia, Shaun, Alex and Jesse in the back. They stopped at the school gates, and bid their farewells. As soon as the 3 got into the school gates, a massive round of applause shot through.
"Hip hip Hooray! Hip hip Hooray! Hip hip hooray!"
