Title: Her Death for His Life
Lily and James Potter sat on their sofa, playing with their son, Harry. Lily smiled but a fear was in her heart.
'James, I feel that we have been betrayed by Peter.'
'Lily, I know Peter. He loves us and wouldn't betray us.' He looked at his son who was yawning. 'Take Harry upstairs and we'll talk more.'
Lily felt a little better, she trusted James. She gave him a gentle kiss, before picking up Harry. She started for the stairs, when an evil, cruel laughter rang out.
'Lily, it's him! Run! I'll hold him off!' The door burst open and a hooded figure stood there, laughing.
Lily ran up the stairs and heard a voice screech, 'Averda Kevera!' Lily heard James cries. She entered Harry's room and slammed the door shut, locking it with her wand.
Hugging Harry close to her, she whispered, 'I love you, Harry. I'll love you forever.' She sat him in his crib. Suddenly the door burst open. 'Don't kill Harry!' she yelled as she turned around.
'Stand aside!' said a cold voice, coming from the hooded figure. 'I just want the boy.'
'Never. Kill me instead!'
'I just wanted the boy and his father. But I have no choice.' He lifted his wand and yelled, 'Averda Kevera!'
Screams filled the air. The hooded figure turned towards the crying baby. 'Now it's your turn.' He raised his wand and yelled a third time. 'Averda Kevera!' The green light flashed from his wand, aimed at Harry. The light hit him... and turned back at its owner.
'What! NO!' The figure's screams shot through the air. Barely a spirit, he fled from the now destroyed house. In the center of the rubble was Harry... alive, with nothing but a lightning-shaped scar on his forehead. A symbol of the sacrafice his mother gave. Her death for his life.
