James could hear Lily moving around upstairs singing a lullaby to Harry as she went. He smiled, she was such a good mum.
He had just finished tidying up when he heard footsteps coming up the drive. He wondered who it could be. Not Sirius or Dumbledore surely. Not at this time of night. But suddenly there was an explosion that rocked the house he ran to the door.
What he saw frightened him to the core of his soul.
'LILY IT'S HIM TAKE HARRY AND RUN. I'LL HOLD HIM OFF!'
Lily was upstairs and heard James shout. No not Voldemort, not now. Peter must have betrayed them. Where could she go.
Downstairs she heard muffled shouts and every now and then a burst of light. Suddenly there was a high pitched cackle, as those final words 'AVADA KEDAVRA!' were shouted. A flash of green light ripped through the house and Lily couldn't focus enough to apparate. James was gone and now he was after Harry.
She ran over to her baby and pulled him close to her.
The door burst open and there stood the hooded killer.
'Give me the Boy.'
'No!'
'Give him to me.'
'If you think there is a mother in the whole world who would give up their baby then you’re sadly disillusioned.'
'Just give me the Boy!'
'No take me instead!'
'You are no use to me. Give me the Boy!'
'No not Harry take me instead!'
'My patience is wearing thin. Stand aside you silly girl! STAND ASIDE!'
'No!'
'Then you leave me no choice.'
Lily knew what was coming it couldn't have been avoided, 'I love you Harry and so does Daddy. One day we'll meet again together as a family.'
'AVADA KEDAVRA!'
A flash of green light ripped through the house again and Lily crumpled to the floor still cradling Harry.
'Now boy, I've killed your family and now I will kill you.'
He moved his wand to perform the curse and said the final words, 'AVADA KEDAVRA!' that should of extinguished Harry's life but the curse rebounded it hit Voldemort in the chest pushing the air out of his lungs.
It ripped through his body tore away his powers his life force. And as he screamed he floated away trying to escape the awful truth. He had been beaten.
