Title: Harry Potter and the Order of the Pheonix, thumbs

I finished this book in about a day, and i will say that it had me up all night. Rowling really has a grasp on the art of grabbing attention. Good as this book was, it seemed more of a conclusion to the last four books, rather than a story able to carry on the fame of it's predecessors. it does hook the reader, but its appeal seems more due to the suspenseful pages of the goblet of Fire, or the Sorceror's stone. harry seems so depressed all the time, the melancholy that settled over Hogwarts at the end of the Goblet of Fire remains unbroken by the flair of humor readers have come to expect.
Then again, it is possible we set our expectations too high. To listen to me yabbering on with the criticism, you'd think i was Rita skeeter! the book did have its ups; Fred and George are always up to a challenge, and humor did seem a noble goal in this book. Spew is ever entertaining, as are the house-elves subjected to it. Harry will need a few laughs to get through these dark and depressing teen years, and it is possible that the exibition of melancholy was due rather to Harry's growth and natural mood swings than a lack of imagination on the part of the author.
Whatever the reason for the sudden change in morale, the fifth book was lacking a bit in new points of interest. As I said before, it would not be able to support itself on it's own, it carries on with the magnificence of the other books rather than creating it's own. A wrap-up was certainly needed, but the plots were a bit too easy to follow, the mysteries unraveled in a predictable fashion. no more guesswork, Voldemorte's back and all clues to plots are laid blatantly in the open.
Despite the critism, I did enjoy this book, but i reccomend you wait to read them until she's finished writing them, so you won't die of anticipation in the three years of ever-changing relaese dates. This series is that good!
