Title: Strike

I have been reading, “Strike” by “Christine Harris” and it is a very interesting book.

The story is set in 1928 and it’s about a young boy, George Dobson who comes from a poor family. George had scruffy hair and wore ripped, then darned clothes because his family couldn’t afford new ones. George was kind, helpful and never rude. He had one best friend called Frank. I think Christine did a good job of interrelating Frank and George. They go on like a house on fire and just enjoyed life.

I think I related to Beatrice the best. Beatrice’s father owned the bakery so she worked in there. Beatrice was good with little kids, helpful nice to everyone even if she didn’t like him or her and she was also tough. She had brown hair, brown eyes and a little to medium build.

My favourite character is George’s mum, Molly. Just before the strike happened, Molly’s husband went to jail and he had to stay there for a few weeks. In that time Molly had to support two children and one on the way. She found it extremely hard. When molly fell sick, she couldn’t cope with all the stress anymore and she lost the baby. All she said was that she didn’t mind because it was just another mouth to feed and I liked her attitude.

I wasn’t hooked from the beginning to tell you the truth; I thought the story would be very boring and that I wouldn’t like it, but as I hot into the story I really enjoyed it. The print wasn’t too small and the font was quite easy to read. The book didn’t have any pictures but I don’t think it need any, Christine Harris described the characters and setting well enough.

I would spend my pocket money on this book and I would have liked to receive it as a present. I would suggest this book for children about 10 years and older because I don’t think younger kids would understand it and they might have trouble with some of the worlds.
That was my book review on “Strike” by “Christine Harris”. If you read the book I hope you like it as much as I did.
