'Hey there, Rapidash,' I said, speaking softly to Rapidash as I got onto it's back. 'I need you to take me, Pikachu, Togepi, Silver, and Terry to the Pokémon League right away. Do you think you can handle that?'
'Oh,' said Terry. 'Well, I don't need to be there. In fact I can't. Competitors are the only ones who can be at the preliminaries. But I'll watch you on TV. I'll take good care of Togepi while you're gone, okay? Good luck!'
I nodded. 'Got that, Rapidash?'
Rapidash nodded.
'Well,' I said, 'come on, Silver.'
Silver looked kind of nervous. 'Um. . . .'
'Oh,' I said. 'You think Rapidash won't trust you, and it'll burn you, huh?'
Silver turned bright pink. 'Yes.'
'Aw, no way!' I said. 'This Rapidash wouldn't hurt you. Come on. It's okay!'
Silver gulped. He walked slowly towards Rapidash. 'Hi there, Rapidash. Good Rapidash.'
Rapidash waited patiently for Silver to approach it, then stood perfectly still while he got onto it's back.
I smiled at Silver. 'See? It's okay. Rapidash trusts you completely! It likes you.'
Silver smiled. 'Yeah, you're right.'
'Okay, hold on tight!' I said.
Silver put his arms around my waist and held on tight.
Rapidash galloped out of the clearing and through the tiny town next to the Pokémon League. People stared as we raced through the streets. I heard one person say, 'What a beautiful Rapidash! Ooh, and a Pikachu, too!'
Finally, we arrived at the preliminaries. There was a huge group of people walking around. I looked at Terry's watch – she had lent it to me so I would know if we were on time.
'Thank goodness,' I said. 'We got here just in time.'
I patted Rapidash. 'Good job, Rapidash. You deserve a good rest.' I recalled my Pokémon.
The emcee stepped out into the middle of a humongous wrestling ring. 'Ladies and gentlemen! Welcome to the preliminaries! If you win the rounds, you will be sent on the the real thing – the Pokémon League! Our first round is...'
'Hey! What's that?' shouted a tiny girl, pointed to the sky.
Everyone looked up. There was a big Meowth head balloon floating overhead. There were two people and one Pokémon.
I groaned. 'Not them again. . . .'
'Prepare for troub---'
Team Rocket's motto was cut short by the panicked screams from the crowd.
'Hey! Let us finish our motto!' James screamed angrily.
That made the crowd scream even louder. In fact, everyone was screaming in terror – except for Silver, Pikachu and I.
'This is ridiculous!' I cried.
