'They're so pathetic!' Silver cried. 'They give Pokémon trainers a bad name!'
'Pikachu, get these guys outta here!' I commanded my yellow mouse.
'Help it out, Croconaw!' Silver said, throwing a Poké Ball. Croconaw appeared and shot a blast of water at the balloon.
'Pika!' Pikachu said with a nod. 'Pikaaa-chuuuuuuuuuu!' It shot a sizzling blast of electricity into the water blast. The water jet carried the electricity to the balloon, which, when it came into contact with the attack, exploded and spiraled off.
'Team Rocket's...oh-whatever!' Team Rocket shouted as they disappeared.
The crowd was in silence. Then they burst into cheers. 'Yay! Yay! Yay!'
I kicked the floor. 'For the sake of Pete... whoever he is.'
The emcee stepped out of the strange wrestling ring. 'Well, you beat those guys in one hit! I guess that means you can go on to the real Pokémon League now!'
'Cool!' Silver shouted.
'No,' I said. 'Those guys are weaklings. We should do at least one preliminary match.'
The emcee scratched his head. 'Well, okay.' He turned to the crowd. 'Who wants to fight this young lady?'
'I do!' came the instant reply. A blonde girl with green eyes pushed her way to the front of the crowd.
Blonde hair?
Green eyes?
Snotty brat voice?
'Erika!' I shouted in exasperation. 'How do you always wind up at the right places at the wrong times?'
Erika just tossed her head. 'Oh, whatever. Do you want to battle or what? Or are you too chicken?'
That did it. No way was I going to back out of a battle with Erika. 'You're on, Erika. Let's go!'
Erika and I stepped into the large wrestling ring that served as an arena.
'The battle will be a three on three!' the emcee shouted. 'Ready, set, FIGHT!'
'Let's go, Magby!' Erika cried, hurling a Poké Ball into the air.
Magby burst out of the Poké Ball in a blast of light. The first thing I noticed was that it had taken care of it's dribbling magma problems.
'I choose you! Pikachu!' I shouted.
'Pika!' Pikachu cried. It jumped off of my shoulder and landed in front of Magby.
'Pikachu, use . . .'
Pikachu charged up for an electric attack. Then it hit Magby with a Thundershock.
'Hey! That's exactly what I was going to say to use!'
Magby fell to the ground with a thud.
'Magby's unable to battle! Round one goes to Crystal!' the emcee cried.
While Erika recalled her Magby, I gave Pikachu a high-five. 'Good job, Peek!'
'Your turn, Charmander!' Erika cried.
Her Charmander appeared in a flash of light.
