Title: Finding Out Who
Chapter 2
As I got out of bed and got dressed, I thought of school. There wasn’t much going
on in school, and I had a feeling that it would be a boring day.
I walked down the stairs toward the kitchen, and the closer to the kitchen I got,
the more I was sure that I could smell sausages cooking in a frying pan! And that was very
unlike my mother, she usually didn’t cook breakfast. She usually just let me have some cereal.
"Mom," I began as I stepped through the door of our kitchen, "what is it with the sausages?"
"Oh, I just had a few pennies to spare, and I thought it would be nice."
"You got a raise didn’t you?"
"Yes." My mom’s face curled into a smile. She hardly ever got a raise.
"How much?" I asked excitedly.
"Enough for us to go on a vacation this summer!"
"Yes!" I shouted in pure joy. I couldn’t believe it! My mom and I hadn’t gone on a vacation together forever! And here was the chance!
"Are you sure, that it’s this summer?" I said sarcastically.
"Oh, I know it’s soon. I’ll be able to squeeze it in though. Don’t worry Kitty. It’ll
be really fun!"
"Yes!"
When I got to school that morning, I felt kind of uneasy. . . but I egnored it and went back to concentrating on my work. At my school, which goes from kindergarten through fifth grade, before school begins in the morning, we take out our journal. And on the chalk board, the teacher writes a question, like "Tell of an incident when you acted as a leader", or "Tell what happened during your weekend". You’d read the question, and
then answer it in your journal. That’s pretty much all our journals were for.
"Will you all please rise for our national anthem." Mr. Cein’s voice, sounding over the intercom startled me. But I still managed to get onto my feet and start to sing.
"Oh, say can you see. By the dawns early light, what so proudly we hail. At the
twilight’s last gleaming. And the rocket’s red glare. The bombs bursting in air, gave
proof through the night, that our flag was still there. Oh, say does that star spangled
banner yet wave. O’er the land of the free, and the home of the brave."
