Title: Finding Out Who
Chapter 6
I could tell that Mrs. Templeton wasn’t going to say where the child that the tall
man wanted was. Because she was a determined lady, and a generous one at that! She
would give up her life to save another’s. Especially a child’s.
Mrs. Templeton took her gaze off of the tall man’s face and looked around the
room to try to avoid his stare. I could tell that the man had mean eyes by the way she had
turned away so eagerly.
But then she spotted me, looking shocked and pale into the room. And she almost
fainted with fright and horror as she screamed, "Kitty! Run!"
The tall man with the black coat turned around as quick as lightning at the mention
of my name.
"Perfect timing, Andrew’s little girl!" He shrieked as he realized that the girl he’d
been asking for had been right behind him. He ran toward me, and as I sat there shocked
and helpless, he gained. And it all seemed to be in slow motion, as if someone was giving
me time to jump to attention and get up and run.
I decided to take the offer.
I struggled to get up onto my feet as the man ran around desks and tried to catch
up to me. I ran down the hall, but my feet felt like lead. And the tall man was gaining fast.
Much to fast.
I looked back over my shoulder to see how close he was to grabbing me, when I
lost my balance and fell to the ground. I couldn’t get up soon enough. So the tall man that
had been chasing me picked me up, and as if I were some stuffed animal, put a huge
potato sack that he’d taken out over my head and he swept me up and tied the top of the
potato sack closed so that I couldn’t get out. I screamed and cried for a teacher to come
and help.
I could see through a small home in the sack, and I didn’t like what I saw. Mr.
Cein and our secretary Mrs. Rouse were standing in the tall man’s path, as if they thought
they could stop a mad man with a gun from leaving a building before some help came.
And just as I thought, they couldn’t. The tall man took out his gun and shot it up
into the air. He was probably trying to say to Mr. Cein and Mrs. Rouse, "I’m not at all
afraid to use this". And apparently, it worked. Mr. Cein and Mrs. Rouse went flat onto the
floor to try to avoid any more bullets that might fly through the air looking for a
vulnerable spot inside one of them.
But before the tall man could pass them and go out into the parking lot, Mr. Cein
glanced up and said, "I’ll get you Perry. No one will believe your stories."
