Title: The final row.

Lily surveyed James shaking with fury. She felt like screaming, lashing out at him and she would have had the baby not been nestled in his arms.

'What do you mean?' Her voice was filled with fury and her green eyes blazed with anger. She backed away from him, eyeing him with suspicion.

He gave no answer.

'Well?' she demanded, running her fingers frantically through her hair. 'Is what Dumbledoor said true?'

Tears welled in his eyes as he gazed at the ground unable to meet her eyes.

'I'm sorry.' He muttered, his voice cracking with emotion. Lily, however, was not satisfied.

'James...' she breathed, fighting for composure. 'Are you telling me...'

'Lily, I'm sorry!' James cried desperately but she paid him no regard.

'Are you telling me that...that...Peter is our guard?' She spat the name disgustedly. She'd always despised him ever since their days at Hogwarts. He was unworthy of such friends, forever collaberating against those who'd befriended him. It had amazed her that James had stayed friends with this man.

'Sorry's not good enough!' She screamed, not bothering to keep her voice tone. Anger etched it's way over her face once more, but if softened as her gaze fell upon Harry, her son.

'Do you realise what you've done?' she whispered, her voice filled with anguish.

'Lily...' James struggled to find the right words. 'I'm sure it will be fine.'

Lily shot him a sceptical look. 'He'll sell us out before you know it!'

James averted her gaze, seemingly interesting in the sleeping boy in his arms. He tentatively stroked his cheek, fighting back tears. A silence had feel upon them, one that he could feel sinking its evil fingers in to them. He couldn't break it. The lump that had welled in his throat seemed to have swollen.

Lily shot him a petrified look. 'Why James?' she whispered, moving closer. She stroked the tuft of hair on his head. 'Think of Harry, James...'

Perplexity washed over James' face. 'What do you want me to do?' He stuttered.

Lily shrugged acting almost flippant. 'We've got to get out of here...'

But a burst of light flashed from outside. The door burst open with sudden force. Lily burst in to tears.

'It's too late!' She cried.

But James refused to give in. 'Not yet...It's him! Take Harry and go...'

Lily ran blindly, desperate to get away but we all know there was only one survivor of that night...
