Title: For Erika pt 4
She stared at me, her face contorted in to a forced smile. Her eyes filled up with silent grief. I paused; lost for words for a second as I contemplated my own posture. Staring at her I saw what she had. Did I look like that?
'I...er...' I stammered, at a loss at what to say. Nothing seemed powerful enough and every sentance that raced to my brain felt stupid, pitiful. So I stayed silent... watching and waiting.
'We've got a problem.' she staed in my voice. I nearly laughed.
'You don't say!' I giggled. But my laugh soon faltered. It wasn't funny. It never had been all along, throughout the biggest problem I'd ever had to endure. Throughout the pain, the anguish; none of it was funny. And yet in some absurd way I knew that to read about it would have some odd humourous twist. Staring at her I failed to comprehend that, and let my face slip back in to it's original worried expression.
'What are we going to do?' I whispered, praying that there was an answer.
Erika brushed my hair from her eyes, shaking. 'I don't know... what can we do?'
I shook my head slowly, failing to see an answer, a way out. But there was none.
'Why...' I began before breaking off. The bell had rung. It was was time for class; already the hustle and bustle of students swamped us.
'Ezi!' I yelled, beckoning towards her before I realised my mistake. 'Aimee.' I hastily muttered, but funny looks were already being cast my way.
'We've got to go to class.'
Frantically I nodded and we exchanged details of our classes. I was particulary worried- year eight work was nothing compared to year ten- but Erika's face was paincked. I had maths, possibly one of the hardest.
'Good luck.' I called before going to her lesson. English. I grinned at this, realising just how enjoyable I was going to find her class.
