Title: Branded
Dripping thickly in a pool of darkness,
I see the stamp go down,
Hard. The liquid rises,
Then the stamp goes down again- on me.
And I'm branded.
I can feel myself clawing at my skin,
Desperately trying to fight the ink,
But it won't scrub off,
I can't get myself clean.
And I'm branded.
Their looks of disgust keep it in place,
It itches with discomfort,
In the middle of my forehead,
I stare in the mirror crying,
Because I'm branded.
I try to smile just this once,
Pretend I don't have that on my face,
I pretend that they can't see it,
Yet they still do, and they keep on laughing,
Because I'm branded.
Eventually it fades,
Loosening with the blessings of time,
And the scrub of the soap of experiance,
I stare at myself in disbelief,
I'm not branded.
And suddenly they want to know me,
Suddenly the friendliness happens,
They grin and smile,
And I laugh at them and their intolerence for me,
When I was branded.
Because I can see I'm much better off for my experiance,
Being branded; having a label put on you,
It's worth it in the end,
Because you learn and can be thankful,
You were branded.
