Title: The Hero's Journey (Part two)

Note: If you have not read part one, you should read it first, because part two will not make sense if you don't

Two days later, Rosa had cooled down, though she was still extremely annoyed at Pablo, and upset that Mama didn’t believe her. I mean, the only reason I had that bit of pottery was because I had been inspecting it. That was so not proof!
It was about 5:00pm, and she was headed to her tent to wash up for dinner. Nearing the tent, she heard loud and angry voices from her tent. As she stepped inside, she inquired, “What’s going on?”
“What do you think?” said her father’s voice, very angry.
“I-I don’t know,” said Rosa, voice quivering with fear of her father.
“The furs!” he yelled. “I can’t believe that you ruined and stole all my furs that I was going to trade tomorrow!”
Rosa stuck her head inside her tent, and took in all of Papa’s furs that he was going to trade, ripped into pieces, on her bed, with the young girl’s knife on top. “Papa! You don’t think I did that, do you?”
“No, I don’t think so, I know so!”
“How?”
“Well,” her mother said, “your father thinks that Pablo is telling the truth when he said---”
“That I did it,” Rosa said softly. “But this is the truth: I had no idea that had even happened until just now.”
“Yeah, right.” Pablo had just come up beside her.
“Pablo, how could you?” said Rosa, eyes filling with tears.
“What did I do?” said Pablo, eyes flashing indignantly.
“You must have done this---this horrible thing, and now you are blaming it on me!”
“Why would I do something like that?”
“Because you wanted to get me into trouble. You are jealous!”
Pablo sneered to hide his fear. “Why on earth would I be jealous of you?”
“Because I’m gonna be the ruler, and you’re not!” And with that, Rosa turned on her heel and ran.
“She has a point,” said their mother. “You always were jealous of your sister’s becoming leader.”
Pablo’s face skipped turning dull red, and went right to crimson. “Mama, Papa! I told you I have changed. Besides, I saw her do it! And I can prove it to you. Meet me here at Rosa’s tent, in four hours. And there you’ll have your proof.”

Back in his own tent, Pablo set to work. He took a piece of parchment, a quill, and some ink. On his parchment, he wrote:

Now that I, Rosa, have cut up my father’s furs and made it look like my brother, Pablo did it and blamed it on me, I will make Mama and Papa believe that Pablo is jealous of me, and that he is not worthy to take my place as leader, as I heard Mama say she might have to consider, and that he is not truly sorry about his horrible ways of acting in his younger childhood and even teenage days. I will remain Mama and Papa’s favorite, and they will continue to hate my brother. That is my evil scheme! Ha!

“Perfect!” said Pablo. Now I’ll put this in her tent, and when she reads it aloud, Mama and Papa will hear, and they’ll have their proof!” And he folded the letter up, wrote “Read me Aloud” on the front, and left for his sister’s tent.

At nine o’ clock, outside our heroine’s tent, Pablo, Mama, and Papa gathered.
“So, where’s your ‘proof’” said Mama.
“Shhh,” said Pablo. “Just listen.”

Inside her tent, Rosa had no idea the small group was outside her tent. She was about to turn out her lamp, to go to sleep, when she spotted a small piece of parchment folded up on her pillow, with the words “Read me Aloud” on the front. Rosa instantaneously opened it, thinking that it was an apology note from her brother. Instead, she read aloud:
“Now that I, Rosa, have cut up my father’s furs and made it look like my brother, Pablo did it and blamed it on me, I will make Mama and Papa believe that Pablo is jealous of me, and that he is not worthy to take my place as leader, as I heard Mama say she might have to consider, and that he is not truly sorry about his horrible ways of acting in his younger childhood and even teenage days. I will remain Mama and Papa’s favorite, and they will continue to hate my brother. That is my evil scheme! Ha!” Rosa was astounded at what she had just read aloud. Then she realized what must have happened.
Pablo must have written this! she thought. He must have wanted me to read this out loud, so mama and papa will hear, and---
“Oh, no, mama and papa and Pablo must be outside!” she said out loud. She hurried outside. And there, right on the exterior of her tent, was her mother, father, and brother. Papa had a very, very angry look on his face. Mama had tears in her eyes. And Pablo… well, he looked rather scornful.
“Pablo, how could you?” she asked.
“What? Spoil your ‘evil scheme’? Well, sorry little sis, but I had to. I just couldn’t let you go being leader and all, without mama and papa knowing. Sorry.”
“Rosa, I can’t believe it! You have been plotting against your brother, mother, and I all this time!”
“But, no, Papa, it’s all Pablo’s fault! He wrote this note to me, and then put ‘Read me Aloud’ on it, so you guys would hear me, and---”
“Pablo, is this true?” asked Mama, examining the note.
“It is his handwriting,” said Papa. “I’d know that sloppy writing anywhere.”
“Pablo, is this true?” repeated his mother. “Did you do this (and the vase), and blame it on your sister? Have you really changed, or is all of it a lie?”
Pablo took a deep breath. He knew that no lie was going to get him out of this one. Our villain’s scheme had been found out.
“Well?” said Papa.
With an elongated, durable glower at his little sister he said, “Yes, all of it is true. I was (and still am) jealous of Rosa, and I broke the vase. I have not really changed, and I’m glad! Faking this ‘good boy’ life is almost more than I can tolerate!” Then he turned on his heel to leave, but as he walked away, he whispered in his sister ear, “I’ll get you for this, Oh, Chief Rosa! Just you wait. You better watch your back.”
