Title: Surprises?

Life itself is so strange,
So full of mysteries,
A web of darkness,
And yet a labyrinth of light.
So many people form part of this life,
Friends, families and foes.
We do share a particular relationship with each one of them,
Even if they do not share the same kind of relationship with us.
So me of them can be described,
Can be given a name,
While some of them are just inexpressible ,
Which can only be felt,
Just like love and hatred.
But it’s astounding how our own people,
Can hurt us more than enemies,
And how many times,
Even foes turn out to be pals in disguise,
Just like there are foes in disguise of pals.
We just need to recognize them,
To know who is who,
Before it’s too late.
Pals are always here for us,
To help us in every way they can.
But several times,
It seems they do everything to hurt us.
We can’t see the ‘good’ reason behind,
We just cannot understand,
We just feel hurt.
And at that time,
One realises who’s the true pal.
It’s pretty easy to say that we like each other as we are,
That we’ll always be here for each other,
Whenever and wherever we’ll need someone,
That we’ll never leave each other’s side,
Even if the whole world turns against us.
I was gullible to think that everyone who said these,
Everyone who made these promises,
Were bound to abide by it.
It’s only when I opened my eyes,
Ready to face reality,
That I realised it was more of a dream,
Which seldom turns true.
Little did I know that pals also turned against you,
That they cared about the whole world,
And even doubt you, your sincerity,
Your true feelings about them.
They also want proof of your true friendship.
But these very people who ask for proofs,
Clearly show that they don’t know about the true meaning of friendship.
They might prove you wrong each time,
Instead of looking at every side of the prism.
They might prove you liars,
Search for proofs for the truth you’ve said,
Thinking that we had been insincere all the time.
They hear out everyone else first,
Try to understand the whole world’s point of view,
Then they take a decision about you.
They’ll allow themselves to question you whenever they want,
Blame you, accuse you or reproach you,
And then quietly leave,
Without trying to hear and understand what you’ve got to say.
And after everything,
They’ll still blame you,
They’ll still say that we don’t care for them,
We’re the ones at fault.
They say that friendship means sacrifice,
And yet they refuse to forget everything for the better,
And move ahead together.
They refuse to forgive,
And yet say that they can’t really do anything.
And the climax in all this,
Is that they’re damn right,
As we cannot change anyone’s deepest feeling.
If they really feel so for us,
It only implies one thing,
That they never understood you,
Never took you as their own,
Unlike you did.
But that’s life,
It’s all about knowing who’s right and wrong,
It’s all about learning to accept our own faults before blaming others,
It’s all about learning to forgive and forget,
And to recognize true pals….
