Title: The Diary of an Ordinary Yet Extraordinary Teenage

Name: Anne frank: the Diary of a Young Girl
Author: Anne Frank

Synopsis:

The Diary of Anne frank is one of the most moving documents to emerge from the Second World War. Anne Frank was indeed, as she claimed to be, an ordinary yet extraordinary teenage girl.
Anne’s story is a true narrative of her two years in hiding in a secret annex to escape from the horrors of the Nazis. Her story is narrated through her diary and best-friend, Kitty.
Anne got the diary on her thirteenth birthday on 12th June 1942, as a present from her parents. Kitty soon became Anne’s greatest confidante. Anne wrote in her diary about the problems she had between her family and friends. She wrote about her difficult schoolwork and how badly Jews were treated during those days. Anne thought her days were bad but she had no idea how much worse it was going to get.
During mid July, the Nazis sent a letter to Anne’s father, Otto Frank, asking for Margot, Anne’s elder sister. The Nazis wanted to send her to a concentration camp. To prevent this, Anne, her parents and her sister went into hiding in an Amsterdam warehouse. Later they were joined by Mr. and Mrs. Van Dam, their son Peter and Mr. Albert Dussel.
Anne writes in her diary about the sudden changes she has to face. She writes about how she misses her previous life of freedom. Her mother becomes more careless, Margot more irritating and her father more serious. The other people in the annex are equally miserable.
But even in the worst of times, Anne doesn’t loose her sense of humor. Her observations about the people in the annex are extremely funny. In her diary, Anne writes about the arguments between Mr. Van Dam, Mr. Dussel and her father over political issues. She writes about the quarrels between Mrs. Van Dam and her mother over household things. However, setting apart their various differences, the eight people manage to live like one big family. For example, Anne writes that on everyone’s birthday, there would be a special treat with a poem from Margot and a dinner without the usual split pea soup, boiled potato and onions.
Anne writes that every evening the eight people would sit around the radio and listen to the news. Hearing about the cruelty of the Nazis, Anne reminded herself about how lucky she wass.
However, the year 1944 wasn’t lucky for her at all. One of the people helping Anne and the rest in the annex betrayed them. The eight people in the annex were arrested and sent to concentration camps. Anne died a few months away from her 16th birthday. Anne’s diary was found and given to her father who had managed to survive the concentration camp. It was later published for general readers.
Anne frank: The Diary of a Young Girl remains a message of courage in the most difficult of situations. This book served as a great inspiration to me.
