Title: Friendship on $3

'Why are you making us live here, mom! You know we can afford...barely...better than this!' I asked angrily. All I had to do to get even more madder was look around at our new home, windows engulfed in a heavy wire mesh, all the furniture covered in a nice layer of dust.
I walked to school alone that day. I was so mad, that I didn't feel like waiting for any friends. That's when she caught my eye.
She was a very skinny, pretty little girl.
She had big, brown eyes, stringy hair, and pale, pale skin.
As if her appearance didn't make me feel bad enough, her clothes made me feel worse. She was in rags, using a towel to carry her books in.
I knew we were poor. I could tell mom would be mad. But, why not? The poor girl hasn't had a thing to eat in years, I'll bet.
I ran up to her. 'Hi! What's your name? I'm Jill. You know, you'll really like our school. It's nice, and it's extremely comfertable.'
She looked at me with her big brown eyes and said, 'I'm Allisa. My family is...um...poor. That's why I'm dressed like this...'
I hesitated before I made my descision. 'Come on, Allisa. Come back with me to my house. We have a apartment, so we're not exactly rich either, but I have a old backpack from last year, and I'm sure I have old clothes that will fit you, and I'll grab us a bite to eat and a hairbrush.'
The smile on her face made me happy. Then...'Will the food last my family?' She asked.
I smiled and pulled out my pocket purse. 'Here,' I said, and handed her $3.
After that, she wasn't an unhappy girl, going to and fro in rags, she was a happy girl, running across wet grass, laughing in the sunlight, going to my house.
